The SQL Server Hosting Toolkit will ultimately consist of a set of components Shared Web Hosters can deploy to provide a great experience around SQL Server for their customers.

Database Publishing Wizard

The Database Publishing Wizard is a tool that hosting customers can download and use with just about any hoster out there to deploy their databases from their desktop up into the hosted environment. We've released the second CTP of the tool adding both a GUI and integration with the hoster-deployable Database Publishing Services. Our future development plans for the Database Publishing Wizard are as follows:
  • RTW (English)
    • Adds integration into Visual Studio
  • TBD
    • Integration into Management Studio

Database Publishing Services

Database Publishing Services enable seamless deployment via a web service from clients such as the Database Publishing Wizard. We've recently released a CTP of this component and future plans are as follows:

Database Control Panel

Early next year we'll be releasing CTPs of a Database Control Panel for deployment by shared web hosters. More details to follow.

Suggestions (cont.): (3) Allow schema/data selection at the table level.
The reason for these suggestions is that we would like to use this tool to generate configuration scripts for doing regression testing. It would modify an existing database, adding and/or populating tables as required to configure the test environment. It is already good and useful, but these suggested enhancements would make it even easier.

Great tool. Suggestions: (1) Have a "Record" function on the GUI Wizard which builds and saves the command-line equivalent. (2) Allow selection of tables and other entities in the command line version.

How about creating some documentation for the hosting toolkit?
(or is it hiding somewhere?
