Database Publishing Wizard

Download the Current Release (1.1)
Localized versions of 1.1

The Database Publishing Wizard enables the deployment of SQL Server 2005 databases (both schema and data) into a shared hosting environment on either a SQL Server 2000 or 2005 server.

The tool supports two modes of deployment:
  1. It generates a single SQL script file which can be used to recreate a database when the only connectivity to a server is through a web-based control panel with a script execution window.
  2. It connects to a web service provided by your hoster and directly creates objects on a specified hosted database
The Database Publishing Wizard provide both a graphical and a command-line interface. In addition, it can integrate directly into Visual Studio 2005 or Visual Web Developer 2005.

Does this work in the opposite sence of use. For example. I'm hosted with a horrible hosting company that by policy, they cant just detach and copy my SQL SB to my FTP root for downloading, so im totally stuck without getting my db over to my new monster server that we have in house at my job.

Can this software be used to PULL from my host to my new server?? I tried copying my DB to a script file but that does me no good because it wont import into my new server's SQL db, for what reason I have no idea.,

Should importing the .sql file do the trick on my new server?? I just tried pasting it into a new query window on the new server and it didnt give me an error but I still dont see the new db showing up.

Im totally lost here.

Have created a simple 1 table db and tried to publish 'script to file'.
I am getting 'an exception occured... cannot resolve collation conflict between 'latin1 etc etc'
As I am publiching to a file and not another database how can this possibly chuck out a collation error?

I was unable to install the wizard. I am asked to provide a registration code for Visual Studio. It tells me it in not registered. I have installed and reinstalled VWD twice. It tells me it is properly registered.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

I would like to create a SQL file. I want to test database capability on my web site. Does anyone know of another program that can create an SQL file based on my MDF file?
