Can I use this tool to publish from a local Sql Server 2000 database to a Sql Server 2005 database on a remote host?

The Microsoft download page for the Database Publishing Wizards says that it requires:

* Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package (x86)
* Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Management Object Collection, available within the Feature Pack for SQL Server 2005

Since it requires SQL Server 2005 Management Object Collection, this makes me assume that it will not work for scripting a Sql Server 2000 database. Is this correct?

Hi blake

Yes you can publish from a local SQL Server 2000 database to a SQL Server 2005 database using this tool.
Even though the tool requires SQL Server 2005 Management Object Collection, it works with both SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005.

2nd day at Codeplex first-time poster...

I read on another post to use DPW to make a .sql file to import to my online database at my hoster. This was helpful, but I'm using SQL Server 2005 Express, my hoster uses SQL 2000.

On another note, I tried using the Publish to shared host utility, but I administrate three web sites through NetworkSolutions and the utility doesn't accept my provider information.

Any help?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill -

Regarding converting your SQL Server 2005 database to 2000: our tool supports that. If you go to the options portion of the tool you can select "SQL Server 2000" as the target version.

In regards to your hosting provider: we are working on promoting the web service to all hosters who run SQL Server. Over the next few months you should see more hosters deploying the service (including hopefully Network Solutions).

Thanks,
